A recent update has added herbalism, gathering, and cooking to Baldur's Gage: The Sword Coast Chronicles! Most of thes mechanics are based around the skill Craft: Food Preparation.
More details can be found here: https://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?p=952359#p952359

The cooking system is NOT intended to be a perfect replica of cooking in the real world. It is supposed to approximate cooking in an enjoyable manner. However, a unlike Gathering, Cooking has no associated XP granted for producing goods even if he / she spends weeks on end fishing. The Sword Coast economy doesn't revolve around adventurer-chefs (mostly).

Regardless of how skilled they are, a character is limited to what they can cook by their available ingredients, and in this way are tied closely to the gathering mechanics. An individual will often be limited to amy maximum gathering and processing limits of those ingredients, unless they can obtain supplies from other characters.

How-To: Cooking!

Cooking on BGTSCC is currently a fairly straightforward process:

  1. Gather your ingredients, as listed the the recipe you wish to make.
  2. Interact with a "Cooking Station" located in many kitchens.
  3. Select the type of cooking you wish to do (Baking, grilling, infusing)
  4. Select your chosen recipe. Keep in mind that you may need a minimum Craft: Food Preparation skill for some recipies to appear.
  5. Confirm your choice. The option to confirm will not appear if you are missing a required ingredient.
  6. Enjoy your tasty new treat!

Some recipes have a "Special" ingredient. According to the release post "Having some cooked items in your inventory can help you reproduce those recipes."

Common Ingredients:

  • Fresh Water - Gathered in endless quantities from many water-sources.
  • Wheat - Gathered from Crops in many farming communities; Limit 36 per reset
  • Milk - Gathered from Milk Pails near cattle; Limit 20 per reset
  • Flour - Produced at a Windmill near many fields, turning 3 to 5 Wheat into a single bag of Flour (*)
  • Butter - Produced at a Butter Churn in many kitchens, turning 3 Milk into 1 Butter
  • Chocolate - Purchased from some food stores and merchants
  • Fruits - Gathered from many trees, shrubs, and plants across the Coast.
  • Fish - Fished from streams and rivers across the Coast.
  • Meat - Harvested from the carcasses of fallen animals.

Other Notes and Considerations

(*) The conversation for Flour will convert 3 wheat if that is all you have, but will consume up to 5 wheat if you have more. A patch is in the works (As-of 2023.07.24) to fix this at 3 wheat always.

Anything listed with "Unk." is unknown, either because I was unable to make it, or because the DC is unclear to my 50+ cooking skill.
Likewise, there may be other recipes, but I kinda hope that 50-ish skill finds them all. Please let me know if any are missing. ~ Kitsunenotsume
