Treant

Region(s): Everywhere
Race(s): Treant

The language of the treants is subtle, relying on gestures and pitch to inflex. Words seem quite long, but this is explained by the massive vocabulary the language has. In many cases letters are added or dropped to indicate a degree of proximity or tone.

Treant is unlike any tongue known to the civilized races, students of the language are few because of the high requirements it sets on both memorizing the vocabulary and gestures. Unlike other languages Treant does not use grammar rules. Each word simply has its meaning and must be learned by becoming acquainted with the subject.

Only a few academic studies have been conducted on the subject, undertaken mostly at Candlekeep on the Sword Coast, specifically with Treants in the Cloak Woods. This branch of study was discontinued in 1234 DR with the death of its patron and sole student. It is unknown if any tomes were produced on the subject.

Druids are reportedly avid students of Treant, occasionally having been reported to engage the creatures in lengthy debates lasting many days.
