Elven, commonly called Elvish and sometimes referred to as the True Tongue, is the language of the Tel’Quessir Elves and drow. Its script is known as Espruar. Elves are often described as eloquent and musical in their speech, and are capable of readily reproducing the sounds of other languages.

Espruar is originally a moon elf alphabet adopted by gold elves, drow, and other elves thousands of years ago. Its normally considered beautiful, weaving script flows over many items of jewelry, and magical artefacts, but also monuments and ruins in various locations.

Unlike Drow, both the Elven tongue and alphabet are known to other races, often as a second or third language. Some Human nations in Faerun use Espruar as their official alphabet, though none have also adopted the tongue itself.
