Baldur's Gate has an extensive language system that uses lore accurate words from the Forgotten Realms. It is aimed at providing an immersive experience by making it appear as though each language is distinctive and unique.

The languages are spoken by both players and non-playable characters (NPCs), they also feature regularly in Dungeon Master events. Several spells can bestow a creature with the ability to understand and speak these languages, facilitating communication.

In the future books and quests may also include readable text that may or may not need translation. We are also looking to add an NPC to the nexus to give a character all his default languages, in case he / she misses any.

NOTE: When using languages, use @ symbol before and after the text part you want to appear in common. For example a name (Mudd): *Emotes inside asterisk appear in common.* Spoken text would be translated to the used language such as dwarven, but the name Mudd @Mudd@, in this case, would appear in common because it is inside @@.
