Rashemi

Region(s): Rashemen
Race(s): Humans

Rashemi is the name for an ethnic type covering the people native to Rashemen in Northeast Faerûn. They are short and muscular, with a hardy physique. Activities include: winter cross-country racing and hunting animals with only light armaments.

Rashemi males are warriors who fight with primitive weapons such as axes, bows, spears and swords, and prefer to go without armour. Rashemi females are able to use magic tied to the land itself, in service of Rashemen.

The language these people speak is a dialect of Halardrim, though its etymology and roots are lost to all but the Witches of Rashemen. Known to the Rashemi as Rasallesian it is influenced by both common and central Thorass, containing loan words that make it at least somewhat understandable when discussing commercial matters. Unusual is that the language contains an expansive vocabulary dealing with divine magic, while the arcane vocabulary is so small it may as well not be mentioned. Outsiders simply call the language Rashemi. Rasallesian speakers normally use the Thorass alphabet, if they are literate.

The full extent of words to do with arcane magic is simply 'magic', with no words to conceptualize different spells, inluences on the weave, or even to for creating magical items. The Divine vocabulary is its exact opposite, containing words describing degrees of balance, and conceptual proximity to spheres untranslatable to other languages except through analogy.
