Celestial is the language of celestials. It was brought to Faerun through contact with 'good' folk from other planes. It is described as beautiful, yet alien in nature, presumably developed among beings with cerebral patterns unlike those of humanity.

Clerics are often students of the language, and the Celestial alphabet is used to transcribe the Mulhorandi language, except in Thay, which writes in its own dialect of Mulhorandi using the Infernal alphabet instead. Many spells written by Divine casters such as clerics are transcribed via the Celestial Alphabet. Dialects of Infernal are known to exist which masquerade as Celestial for this purpose. These are usually recognized by very experienced speakers and casters, as the resultant tones are harmonic yet strangely discordant and whimsical somehow.
