Thieves Cant is the language employed by professional thieves and rogues. It is usually learned 'in practice' while tagging along on jobs with a more experienced rogue.

The language is popularly used around the Sword Coast, with City guards usually being aware of its existence. Thieves Guilds usually put a price on any person who would teach the language to outsiders, these being people who would put their business at risk.

Paradoxically the language is also used by guards in some towns, usually signifying a change of 'regime' at a prior point in time. These are considered dialects of the Thieves cant, typically splitting away from the evolving primary cant because of the different requirements law enforcing imposes.

Far away places like Kara-Tur, Mulhorand, and Kozakura possess their own unique forms of thieves cant.
