A trap is a hazard placed on the ground that triggers an effect, harming whoever sets it off. Traps detected with Search mode show as a red overlay on the ground. Craft: Engineering assembles trap kits and lets a character place their own; Disable Device disables or recovers traps set by others.

Traps come as generic trap kits, projectile traps, alarms and magical spell traps, at rising strengths: Minor, Average, Strong and Deadly, with Fatal and Epic versions of some.

Traps are built for either damage or debilitation:

  • Damage traps allow a Reflex save for half damage, so Evasion and Improved Evasion help against them.
  • Debilitation traps allow a save against their effect, but always deal their listed damage.

The Evasion column shows which traps Evasion works against.

Trap kits

The trap kits player characters can use:

Gameplay notes

  • Traps set by players only trigger on characters hostile to the one who set them.
  • A PC killed by a trap set by a player counts as a PvP death, not a PvE death.
