Gnome
Region(s): Everywhere Race(s): Gnomes
The gnomish language, also known as Gnim, is spoken by the gnomes of the Great Spire of Yal Tengri and other communities scattered throughout Faerun.
Gnim has a simple structure and fluid tones. Most gnomes have a truly daunting vocabulary, however, with extremely fine degrees of distinction in, for example, kinds of love or shades of green. Their language is ideal for academic, artistic, and engineering pursuits, and is widely used in academic circles even among other races. Many sages consider Gnim to be a scholar's language, and proficiency in the tongue is indeed considered necessary to qualify in some academic institutions. In particular schools which teach hydraulics and engineering tend to require it.
Gnim utilizes an adapted version of the dwarven Dethek alphabet. Gnomish literature covers a staggering variety of topics, ranging from poetry and engineering to turnip farming.
