By means of this spell the caster immediately becomes aware of any attempt to observe him. Since the spell is centered on the caster it moves with him, enabling him to sweep areas for the duration of the spell.
When a scrying attempt is detected the scrying entity must immediately roll a will savingthrow vs spells. If this is failed the identity of the scryer immediately becomes known to the caster, derived from the target's magical mark on the scrying sensor. The saving throw is d20 + the caster's spellcraft skill vs the spell save DC of the scryer.
Gameplay Notes
This spell is intended to counterplay the Scrying Sensor created by Scrying and Greater Scrying.
The detection radius of Detect Scrying is about 30% larger than Local-Say/Darkvision radius.
There are 2 checks involved:
- Save vs Scrying (Detector), Will save VS spells, at DC of Scrying/G.Scrying.
- Unclear, either
- A) Save vs Detection (Scryer), Will save VS Spells, at DC of Detect Scrying or
- B) Spellcraft check (Detector), at DC of Scrying/G.Scrying.
If the latter, the Detector simply needs a 25-30 Will save to block scrying attempts, and a 20+ Spellcraft modifyer to identify the Scryer practically every time.
Any sensor entering the radius will be immediately recalled to the caster if the detecting character passes the save VS scrying.
The Scrying character will be identified if they fail the save VS detection that happens at the same time. If that happens, both parties will be notified and are considered consented to PVP.
