Lathander (pronounced: lah-THAN-der), whose title was The Morninglord, was a deity of creativity, dawn, renewal, birth, athletics, spring, self-perfection, vitality and youth. He favored those who dispelled the undead and blessed those who planted new life. Lathander was also the god called upon to bless birth and fertility related ceremonies. Some saw him as the neutral good aspect of the ancient Netherese deity Amaunator.

Whenever humans embark on a new journey, enter a new contact or, or start a political or romantic relationship, chances are good that they whisper a prayer to Lathander. Though he is among the oldest of the Faerûnian pantheon, the Morninglord nonethenless retains the cheery optimism of youth that makes him the perfect symbol of beginnings.

Garagos (pronounced: GAH-rah-gohs), the Lord of War, was a god of war and exarch of Tempus, though he focused more on destruction than war itself.

During the age of Netheril, Garagos was part of the Netherese pantheon and was known as Targus. Some time around or shortly after the fall of Netheril, the interloper deity Tempus managed to slay Garagos.

Survived by die-hard followers in several regions surrounding the Sea of Fallen Stars, a temple in Westgate, the Vilhon Reach and the Border Kingdoms, Garagos is associated with the rampaging destruction and plundering of war than tactics, strategies, or armies.

The Reaver is linked with the mad bloodlust that overtakes some warriors, resulting in horrifying carnage. (Followers of Tempus claim their god destroyed Garagos by using the Reaver's berserking fury against him.) The scarlet cloak he is portrayed as wearing in religious art is one made of the blood of his foes, and in recent times he is often shown as a six armed giant wading through a blood-red sea — again, the blood of his slain enemies.

Much quicker to anger and slower to show mercy than he was before his death, Garagos finds most of his followers in brigands, bandits, and priests of the Deities of Fury who pay him lip service in battle.

Tempus (pronounced: TEM-pus), also known as the Lord of Battles, was the god of war. His dogma was primarily concerned with honorable battle, forbidding cowardice and encouraging the use of force of arms to settle disputes.

Tempus was originally one of many potential war gods who emerged from the primordial clashes between Selûne and Shar. These gods fought constantly with each other, the victors absorbing the essence and power of the defeated. This continued until Tempus stood as the sole god of war in the Faerûnian pantheon, having defeated and absorbed all of his competitors (with the notable exception of Garagos, whom he defeated but spared).

The barbarians of Icewind Dale claimed that Tempus's original name was "Tempos".

Beshaba (pronounced be-SHAH-ba), or Lady Doom as she is also known, is the chaotic evil intermediate deity of accidents, bad luck, misfortune, and random mischief. She demands worship to keep her bad luck at bay. Her aim in life, is to desiccate and disintegrate her sister Tymora, or Lady Luck. She also delights in cursing others, often causing seafarers to lose their navigational instincts.

Beshaba is revered more out of fear, than out of religious faith. Her doctrine states that bad luck befalls everybody and the only way to avoid it is by worshiping her. She is renowned for being spiteful and malevolent, and her priests manipulate common folk into revering and providing for them by acting mysteriously and playing on morbid fears. Her clerics must offer an entreaty for their spells and make sacrifices of alcoholic beverages such as burning brandy or wine. There are two festivals in the calendar of Beshaba followers at Midsummer and Shieldmeet. Both are celebrated by revelry and indulgence in food and drink.

Chauntea (pronounced: chawn-tee-ah) is as old as Toril itself. Hers is the divine spark that gave life to the natural world, the vibrant, caring spirit infused with the planet at the moment of its creation. Originally a deity of wild places and animal life, Chauntea has grown with her world, changing and adapting to its many developments. The millennial have taught her patience—to the point of being at times ponderous. Chauntea loves the inhabitants of her world, and she likes nothing more than instructing Toril's denizens on how the land itself might enrich their lives. Hers was the hand that guided the first mortal wanderers to give up the uncertainty of the gatherer for the stability of the field. Today, Chauntea is worshiped as the kind benefactor who ensures a strong harvest, healthy meals, and robust country living. She preaches a reverence for nature and urges the folk of civilized lands to repair what they have damaged, but she long ago ceded the wildlands to other deities.

Chauntea rarely manifests herself in physical form, preferring to diffuse her essence throughout the living land of Toril. Religious icons depict her as a matronly, middle-aged woman with pale white hair and a welcoming smile. She wields a sturdy shock of grain as both walking staff and weapon, on the unusual occasions in which she finds herself in battle.

Worshiped by farmers, gardeners, agricultural slaves, and any who make their living off the land, Chauntea is seen by most Faerunians as an integral part of the natural cycle of life. Wealthy landowners and simple farmers alike come to the local cleric of the Earthmother for advice on bringing in the harvest or in setting next season's crops. When foul weather or disease leads to blighted fields, growers turn their gaze and prayers to Chauntea in hopes that her attentions will salvage the seasonal yield. Those who subvert the harvest for ill ends have much to fear from Chauntea's servants, who take their role as pastoral protectors very seriously.
Not long after Shar and Selûne created Toril and gave birth to Chauntea, the world's animating spirit, a traveler ventured to the world from a distant realm. He came upon a chaotic landscape of indistinct, shapeless concepts yearning to be given solidity. To each of these concepts he gave a name that would define it in the aeons to come. Such was the power of these names that the concepts transcended their elusive existence bound to physical form in the material world. Thus did Oghma, the Binder of What is Known, give order to chaos and claim an honored place among Toril's oldest deities.

Milil (pronounced mil-LILL), also known as the One Who Watches While Music is Alive and the Guardian of Singers and Troubadours, is depicted in religious art and song as a handsome male human or elf with a charismatic manner and a haunting, melodic voice. He is venerated by human, elf, and half-elf, bards.

Milil is the ultimate performer: self-confident, inspired, possessed of total recall or anything he sets a mind to remember, able to improvise facilely out of desire or necessity, well-educated in general theories of conduct and broad areas of knowledge, and masterful in all sorts of performance technique (including a passing knowledge of disguise derived from costume theory), especially within his sphere of knowledge—music, poetry, and elegant speech. However, he is also self-centered and egotistical and likes to be the center of attention. When he is not the center of attention, he bores easily, and his mind wanders or he leaves. He is also given to flirtation with both deities and mortals for his own enjoyment, to deep annoyance of more sober powers.

Milil often manifests as haunting music, particularly in clearing deep in woodlands. He appears as a wordless, lone male voice soaring through the air where no singer can be seen. At times, Milil draws the image of two dancing hollyphants in the air in glowing yellow lines or in ink (that appears from nowhere) on parchment to signify his approval. This seems to indicate his delight in watching such creatures dance to his music. More often, Milil manifests as a radiance surrounding a bard, storyteller, or epic poet in the throes of inspiration—a sight always heralding a performance that moves an audience to tears, blind obedience, enthusiastic offerings of money, or whatever else the performer desires them to do. Milil often places helpful visions (mental pictures of the whereabouts of treasure, lost loved ones, or directions overland) in the mind of a singer or musician who pleases him.

Milil also acts through the appearance or presence of aasimar (all accomplished singers), hollyphants, light aasimons, movanic devas and solars. More commonly he sends songbirds especially nightingales, white horses or pegasi, calico cats, red or yellow roses, lilies, peonies, perfect gemstones or any sort, and peregrine falcons to show his favor and as a sign to inspire his faithful.

Garagos (pronounced: /ˈgɑːrɑːgoʊs/ GAH-rah-gohs), the Lord of War, was a god of war and exarch of Tempus, though he focused more on destruction than war itself.

During the age of Netheril, Garagos was part of the Netherese pantheon and was known as Targus. Some time around or shortly after the fall of Netheril, the interloper deity Tempus managed to slay Garagos.

Survived by die-hard followers in several regions surrounding the Sea of Fallen Stars and a church in Westgate, Garagos mysteriously and unexpectedly reappeared in Westgate's harbor during the Time of Troubles.

Much quicker to anger and slower to show mercy than he was before his death, Garagos found most of his followers in brigands, bandits, and priests of the Deities of Fury who paid him lip service in battle.
