Gray_orcs

Gray orc is a race introduced with Storm of Zehir.

The orcs of the eastern lands are concentrated in the Moonsea and Endless Wastes today, with a much smaller number scattered through the various lands that lie between. A gray orc looks less bestial than their more savage northern kin, but is still obviously nonhuman. Grey orcs are more apt to wear "civilized" clothing than mountain orcs, though they typically follow a nomadic existence - dwelling in remote, desolate places and eking out a meager existence as best they can. The true power behind a tribe of gray orcs is not the chieftain, but the tribe's high priest, typically an adept or a cleric (often female), who has held the position for many years. The gray orcs are zealots, and the word of their tribal clerics is law.

Gray orcs are just as mean, savage, and barbaric as their northern cousins, but they lack the mountain orc's drive to conquer and enslave. Gray orcs are quite likely to react suddenly and irrationally to events, trusting their heart and instincts more readily than logic. When presented with an opportunity to attack a hated rival, a gray orc doesn't hesitate to attack even having been brutally defeated dozens of times before by the same enemy.

Racial Traits
*Size: Medium
*Ability adjustments: +2 Strength, -2 Intelligence, +2 Wisdom, -2 Charisma
*Long Gait: Gray orc base land speed is 40 feet. Their gait is long and loping and they can cover great distances quickly.
*Light Blindness: Gray orcs suffer a -d3 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws and skill checks in sunlight or within the radius of a daylight spell. They can also get blinded by the exposure to sunlight temporarily.
*Darkvision: Gray orcs can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
*Scent: Can detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell. This allows the user to track hidden and invisible targets when using the Track ability.
*Favored Class: Cleric. Although gray orcs are comfortable with the savage life of the barbarian, they tend to be calmer and more collected than northern orcs, focusing their rage and hatred inward. This allows them to excel as clerics of the warlike orc deities.
*Weapon Proficiency: Gray orcs are proficient with greataxe and longbow.
*Level adjustment +1: Gray orcs are slightly more powerful and gain levels more slowly than other, more common races. It will take more experience for a gray orc to reach level 2 than it would for normal races, for example.
Rogues have little in common with each other. While some - maybe even the majority - are stealthy thieves, many serve as scouts, spies, investigators, diplomats, and simple thugs. Rogues are versatile, adaptable, and skilled at getting what others don't want them to get. While not equal to a fighter in combat, a rogue knows how to hit where it hurts, and a sneak attack can dish out a lot of damage. Rogues also seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to avoiding danger. Experienced rogues develop nearly magical powers and skills as they master the arts of stealth, evasion, and sneak attacks. In addition, while not capable of casting spells on their own, a rogue can sometimes "fake it" well enough to cast spells from scrolls, activate wands, and use just about any other magic item.

Sneak Attack
If a rogue can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from her attack, she can strike a vital spot for extra damage. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and it increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter.

Trapfinding
Rogues (or Divine Seeker3 or Phantom8 ) can use the search skill to locate traps when the task has a Difficulty Class higher than 20. Finding a nonmagical trap has a DC of at least 20, or higher if it is well hidden. Finding a magic trap has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it. Rogues (and only rogues) can use the Disable Device skill to disarm magic traps. A magic trap generally has a DC of 25 + the level of the spell used to create it.

Evasion
At 2nd level and higher, a rogue can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If she makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save (such as a red dragon's fiery breath or a fireball), she instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the rogue is wearing light armor or no armor.

Trap Sense
At 3rd level, a rogue gains an intuitive sense that alerts her to danger from traps, giving her a +1 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps. These bonuses rise to +2 when the rogue reaches 6th level, to +3 when she reaches 9th level, to +4 when she reaches 12th level, to +5 at 15th, and to +6 at 18th level.

Uncanny Dodge
Starting at 4th level, a rogue can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, she still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized.

Improved Uncanny Dodge
At 8th level a rogue cannot be sneaked attacked by another rogue, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the target.

Special ability
At 10th, 13th, 16th, and 19th level, a rogue gains a special ability of her choice from among the following options:<br />
*Crippling strike: A rogue with this ability can sneak attack opponents with such precision that her blows weaken and hamper them. An opponent damaged by one of her sneak attacks also takes 2 points of Strength damage. Note: The effects of this ability stacks with itself per hit landed.
*Defensive roll: The rogue can roll with a potentially lethal blow to take less damage from it than she otherwise would. Once per day, when she would be reduced to 0 or fewer hit points by damage in combat (from a weapon or other blow, not a spell or special ability), the rogue can attempt to roll with the damage. To use this ability, the rogue must attempt a Reflex saving throw (DC = damage dealt). If the save succeeds, she takes only half damage from the blow; if it fails, she takes full damage. She must be aware of the attack and able to react to it in order to execute her defensive roll-if she is denied her Dexterity bonus to AC, she can't use this ability. Since this effect would not normally allow a character to make a Reflex save for half damage, the rogue's evasion ability does not apply to the defensive roll.
*Improved evasion: This ability works like evasion, except that the rogue takes no damage on a successful Reflex saving throw against attacks such as a dragon's breath weapon or a fireball and she takes only half damage on a failed save.
*Opportunist: The rogue automatically gains a +4 competence bonus to attack rolls when making an attack of opportunity.
*Skill mastery: The rogue cannot roll less than 5 whenever using the Disable Device, Open Lock, or Set Trap skills, even if in combat.
*Slippery mind: This ability represents the rogue's ability to wriggle free from magical effects that would otherwise control or compel her. If a rogue with slippery mind is affected by an enchantment spell or effect and fails her saving throw, she automatically gets one reroll.
*Or a bonus normal feat.

*Skill Mastery (Acrobatics): The rogue cannot roll less than 5 whenever using Arobatics, even in combat.

*Hide in Plain Sight (indoors): (Hide in the Shadows is replaced by the new Create Diversion ability.) Rogues can now select Hide in Plain Sight (indoors) starting at level 16 with rogue bonus feats. A rogue may attempt to enter stealth mode even while being observed. If the attempt fails, the rogue may try again in 6 seconds (1 round).
*Hide in Plain Sight (HiPS): If a rogue already have either HiPS (indoors) or HiPS (outdoors), they can select unrestricted HiPS with rogue bonus feats.

A rogue may also use her epic bonus feats at level 24 and 28 to select these special abilities.
Description
The target creature is able to see all invisible creatures within his line of sight.

Gameplay Notes
See Invis spells no longer spot the sensor for scrying. Warlock crawling eye can still be seen with see invis as it's a physical object.

Basically this is outclassed by Blindsight if you can learn both as a Sorcerer/Wizard. The differences are:

* See Invisibility:
** Spell School: Divination
** Levels: Bard 3, Sorcerer/Wizard 2.
* Blind Sight:
** Spell School: Transmutation
** Levels: Cleric 3, Druid 3, Sorcerer/Wizard 2.

This is purely a counter to Invisibility, and does not work on Etherealness at all. If cast, all invisible creatures appear as if they were not invisible.

SRD differences
* http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/seeInvisibility.htm - "You can see any objects or beings that are invisible within your range of vision, as well as any that are ethereal."

You weave together a scrying sensor (as a familiar) and possess it to scry the area. The scrying sensor is invisible to nearby creatures, unless they possess the ability to see through invisibility. The sensor can be used to eavesdrop on private (whispered) conversations, but this prompts a will and spell resistance check from the subject. Saving throws are made silently. If a saving throw against the spell's DC succeeds then the sensor is recalled to the caster. Saving throws are performed every five minutes, for every non-frienldy creature in close proxmity to the sensor.

Regardless of the saving throws, if a creature in close proximity is able to see the sensor it performs a spellcraft check against the spell's DC to identify the caster. If succesfull, both parties are informed and the eavesdropping party will have auto-consented to PvP. Due to its magical nature, a scrying sensor cannot be seen with Blind Sight.

Scrying sensor should now correctly bypass rolls for party members.

DnD 3.5 Light
This spell causes an object to glow like a torch, shedding bright light in a 20-foot-radius (and dim light for an additional 20 feet) from the point you touch. The effect is immobile, but it can be cast on a moveable object. Light taken into an area of magical darkness does not function.
A light spell (one with the light descriptor) counters and dispels a darkness spell (one with the darkness descriptor) of an equal or lower level.
Light spell has a new 'Bright White' option. This option is already available through the 'No Choice' option, but it will now be more clear for players that feel they need this increased lighting effect.
With a word and a gesture, you fill your lungs with swirling, burning energy. Then, with a mighty exhalation, you flood the space before you with a powerful cone of fire. You breathe forth a cone of fire that deals d6 * casterlevel points of fire damage. A successful Reflex save halves this damage, and spell resistance applies. The maximum casterlevel is 18. If you are pacted to a dragon the maximum increases to 21 casterlevels, while draconic heritage increases your pre-maximum casterlevel by +2 levels and the spell by +2 DC points.
Description
This spell causes the caster's body to become completely covered with young colorless dragon scales. The scales increase the caster's overall armor class and stack with other spells and source of AC, but they decrease his charisma score by -2. If you are of draconic heritage or pacted to a dragon the bonus increases by +1 for each feat / pact.

Update: Dragon Scales has been changed to level 3 and renamed Dragonskin. It provides Natural AC at a similar progression to Spiderskin, along with 5-20 DR to a specific energy type based on which dragon you choose when casting the spell (acid (green), electricity (blue), fire (red), cold (white)). Characters with the Draconic heritage gain an additional 1 AC from this spell. Dragonskin lasts 10 minutes per level and can only be used on the caster.
Born of a supernatural bloodline, a Warlock seeks to master the perilous magic that suffuses his soul. Unlike Sorcerers and Wizards, who approach arcane magic through the medium of spells, a Warlock invokes powerful magic through nothing more than an effort of will. The font of dark magic burning in their souls makes them resistant to many forms of attack and arms them with dangerous power. Warlocks learn to harness their power to perform a small number of specific attacks and tricks called invocations. Warlocks make up for their lack of versatility by being tougher and more resilient than sorcerers or wizards. By harnessing his innate magical gift through fearsome determination and willpower, a Warlock can perform feats of supernatural stealth, beguile the weak-minded, or scour his foes with blasts of Eldritch power.

Armor restrictions
Because the somatic components required for Warlock Invocations are relatively simple, a Warlock has Armored Caster and can use any of his invocations while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like Arcane Spellcasters, a Warlock wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure (all invocations, including Eldritch blast, have a somatic component). A multiclass Warlock still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from levels in other classes. Taking the Battle Caster feat removes the somatic spell failure chance for medium armor.

Eldritch Blast
A Warlock attacks his foes with Eldritch power, using baleful magical energy to deal damage and sometimes impart other debilitating effects. An Eldritch blast deals 1d6 points of magical damage at 1st level and increases in power as the Warlock rises in level (up to 14d6 by level 30). There is no Saving Throw with this attack, but Spell Resistance can negate it. This power can be used at will.
*An Eldritch blast is a ray with a range of 60ft.
*It is a ranged touch attack that affects a single target.
*half damage to objects.
*is a weapon-like spell (Critical hit on a roll of 20, double damage on a critical hit)
*One each of an Eldritch Essence and Blast Shape invocations may be applied to an Eldritch Blast.
*Applied invocations may cause additional effects and thus allow for a saving throw.

Eldritch Essence
Some of a Warlock's invocations, such as Frightful Blast, modify the damage or other effects of the Warlock's Eldritch blast. Unless otherwise noted, the Eldritch blast deals normal damage in addition to the effect of the essence. The Warlock can apply only one essence to a blast at a time.

Blast Shape
These invocations modify the range, target(s), or area of a Warlock's Eldritch blast. Unless otherwise noted, the Eldritch blast does normal damage.

Eldritch lore
At 2nd level the Warlock gains a +2 bonus to Lore and Spellcraft skill checks.

Damage Reduction
Fortified by the supernatural power flowing in his body, a Warlock becomes resistant to physical attacks at 3rd level and above, gaining damage reduction 1/cold iron (damage from attacks are reduced by 1 point unless the damage comes from cold iron). At 7th level and every four levels thereafter, a Warlock's damage reduction improves, up to 7/cold iron at level 27.

Deceive Item
From level 4 onwards, a Warlock gains a +4 bonus to Use Magic Device skill checks.

Fiendish Resilience
Once per day, for 20 rounds, the Warlock gains fast healing. The value is 1 point from 8th level, 2 points from 13th level and 5 points from 18th level.

Energy resistance
At level 10 a Warlock can choose two energy types from Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire, and Sonic. He gains 5 points Damage Resistance against those chosen damage types. At 20th level, a Warlock gains resistance 10 to his chosen energy types. At 30th level, a Warlock gains resistance 15 to his chosen energy types.

Imbue Item
(Mask of the Betrayer only)

From level 12 onwards, a Warlock can use his supernatural power to create magic items, even if he does not know the spells required to make the item (although he must know the appropriate item creation feat). He can substitute a use magic device check (DC 15 + spell level for arcane spells or 25 + spell level for divine spells) in place of a required spell he does not know or can't cast.

Note: Due to the way some crafting recipies use the same reagents as others but different spells and the way this feat works (it does not allow a choice in the spell used), some crafting is not available to Warlocks, as the spell picked by the feat will never correspond to the one required.

E.g., The same reagents are required for 1d6 acid damage and poison damage for weapons; this feat will always pick the spell for poison and never add acid damage. The same applies with all the variations of move silently enchantments to armor as hide will be added in its stead.

Basic enchantments can be overcome by using scrolls as low caster levels are required but you will not be able to add +15 Move silent to armor with this feat.

Spellcasting: Invocations
*Invocation: Warlocks utilize invocations to channel eldritch power at their enemies.

A Warlock does not prepare or cast spells as other wielders of arcane magic do. Instead, he possesses a repertoire of attacks, defenses, and abilities known as invocations that require him to focus the wild energy that suffuses his soul. A Warlock can use any invocation he knows at will.
*A Warlock's invocations are spell-like abilities, therefore a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
*If a Warlock is hit when invoking he must make a concentration check or the invocation is disrupted.
*A Warlock may choose to invoke defensively, by making a concentration check, to avoid provoking attacks of opportunities.
*A Warlock's invocations are subject to spell resistance unless an invocation's description specifically states otherwise. ** See Note Below**
*A Warlock's caster level with his invocations are equal to his class level. However, the spell level of the Eldritch Blast is always equal to one unless modified by shape/essence invocations. If both a blast shape and a blast essence are added to the Eldritch Blast, then the spell level of the blast is equal to the higher spell level of either the shape or essence.
*The DC for an invocation (if it allows a save) is 10 + equivalent spell level + Warlock's Charisma modifier.
*Warlock invocations suffer armor related spell failure (from medium and heavier armor and shields) in the same way as arcane spells (but: see Arcane Spell Failure).

NOTE: The bug that resulted in only half the warlock's caster level being used to calculate spell resistance checks has been fixed on BGTSCC. The bug that resulted in unmodified eldritch blasts of +10d6 damage to bypass spell resistance checks entirely has also been fixed on BGTSCC. Note that Eldritch Blasts modified with Vitriolic Essence innately do not have a Spell Resistance check.

Grades
The four grades of invocation, in order of their relative power, are least, lesser, greater and dark.

Gaining Invocations
A Warlock begins with knowledge of one invocation, which must be of the lowest grade (least). Warlocks may swap one invocation that they already know for one other of the same grade (least, lesser, etc.) every time they gain a level.

Enhancement Feats
Invocations are not actually spells, they are spell-like abilities, so they are not compatible with spell focus feats and any spellcasting feats, save Spell Penetration. As noted above, there is a glitch that only applies one-half of the bonus of Spell Penetration feats towards Invocations/Blasts.

Equivalent Spell Level
Each invocation has an equivalent spell level (ESL) to determine the save DC (if it allows a save) and the required power to dispel it. If both a shape and an essence are applied to an Eldritch Blast, the ESL of the Eldritch Blast is the higher ESL of the eldritch blast, shape or essence. The ESL of an eldritch blast is x, where x is determined by the blast damage of the Warlock (xd6).

The save DC of any invocation is 10 + equivalent spell level + Warlock's Charisma modifier. Caster level equals Warlock class level.

Arcane Spell Failure
The Warlock is documented as being subject to arcane spell failure (the chance of an invocation to fail when wearing too-heavy armor or wielding a shield). However, it appears that only some invocations are actually subject to arcane spell failure:

NOTE: Fixed as of .1588, all invocations/spells suffer arcane failure as listed

*Charm
*Curse of Despair
*Devour Magic
*Flee the Scene
*The Dead Walk
*Voracious Dispelling
*Walk Unseen
*Chilling Tentacles

On the other hand, these are not subject to arcane spell failure (because they have no verbal or somatic component--whether this is intentional, or a bug, is open to question):

*Eldritch Blast (regardless of any shape or essence applied)
*Beguiling Influence
*Dark Foresight
*Dark One's Own Luck
*Darkness
*Devil's Sight
*Dread Seizure
*Entropic Warding
*Leaps and Bounds
*Otherworldly Whispers
*Retributive Invisibility
*See the Unseen
*Tenacious Plague
*Wall of Perilous Flame
*Word of Changing

NOTE: In the latest version (1.23) all of the Warlock's invocations are subject to arcane spell failure. Eldritch Blast as a spell-like ability is exempt.

Epic Spells
At epic levels, a Warlock can learn the following Epic Spells: Damnation, Entropic Husk, Epic Gate, Hellball, Vampiric Feast. All require a high level of Spellcraft to learn (This should be no problem as any high level Warlock should invest in Spellcraft for Eldritch Master).

Update: Warlocks can now qualify for their epic spells at Eldritch Blast 7d6, ensuring that they always qualify for epic spells at an appropriate level for their invocation access regardless of their multiclassing. Pure warlocks will unfortunately qualify for epic spells one level later than they used to, but all other warlock builds will qualify much sooner than previously as they no longer have to wait until they have 16 levels in the base warlock class despite progressing in warlock through Hellfire or other warlock PRCs.

Note: These are not spells granted, they are actually Epic Level Feats that may be taken whenever a bonus feat is offered with leveling.
Type of Feat: Epic
Prerequisites: 21st level, Spellcraft 25, Lore Religion 24 the ability to cast 9th level spells.
Class Prerequisites: Must have one of the following classes:
Cleric, Favored souls, druids, spirit shamans,
All allies within the area of effect regain 300 hit points. Healing spells have a reverse effect on undead, harming instead of healing them (allowing a will save for half damage).

Update: Epic Mass Heal now also removes many status effects and ability damage alongside its healing.
Epic Mass Heal requires an investment of 24 points in Lore: Religion in order to be taken by non-divine mages, due to using the Heal seed.
Description
You transform a single enemy into a vessel of pure chaos which randomly attacks all nearby creatures.

The target must make a Will saving throw (DC +5). If the target fails the saving throw, it is overwhelmed by primal entropy. Its soul is suppressed by the power of the spell as its body is animated by the entropic forces. For 3 rounds, the creature becomes a juggernaut of destruction, gaining a +8 bonus to Strength and Constitution and randomly attacking former allies and enemies alike. At the end of the 3 rounds, the creature ruptures violently, killing it instantly and dealing 1d8 magic damage per hit dice the creature possessed (maximum 30d8) to all creatures within a 10 foot radius. Creatures that succeed at a Reflex saving throw take only half damage from this explosion.

Targets that succeed at the saving throw are still confused for 1d3 rounds, but do not die.

Update: Entropic Husk now has the Death descriptor and obeys death immunity, but its range has increased from small to medium.
Description
When this spell is cast you drink in the life force of creatures in the AoE. Creatures who succeed at a save lose only half their remaining hit points, while those who fail their saving throw lose all their remaining hit points and are instantly slain. The total amount of damage done by this spell is then added to the casters Hitpoint total. Moreover, the life-force of slain creatures coalesces as a greater shadow, which will attack any surviving enemies.
You are only able to absorb enough hit points to restore you to full health, remaining points dissipates into the fabric of the weave.

Update: Vampiric Feast now has the Death descriptor and obeys death immunity, like Avasculate, and it now only affects living targets, but its shadow is now 20 HD instead of 9, with significantly better stats and a new appearance (One-of-Many model).

Gameplay notes
This spell is not stopped by Death Ward or similar effects.

This spell actually damages hostile undead, instead of healing them (bug?)
Description
You banish a single foe to the Hells. If the target fails the saving throw, its soul is sent willingly into the Hells to be tormented and ultimately devoured by fiends, believing that this is a just reward for an ill-spent life. Creatures that succeed at their saving throw are nonetheless exhausted from resisting so powerful an enchantment, and they are Dazed for 1d3 rounds. Additionally, infernal energies radiate from the damned target, afflicting every enemy of the caster within 10 feet with the effects of a greater bestow curse if they do not succeed at a Will saving throw.

Update: Damnation now has an additional +5 to its DC. However, its death effect is now blocked by dimension anchor/lock, as it is a teleportation spell. Only the death effect is affected by this lock, all other effects continue to work as normal. If the death effect is blocked, the spell is treated as if the target had failed its saving throw.

Gameplay notes
This spell doesn't actually send the target anywhere. It simply kills them on failed save. Death Ward and similar effects do not prevent this from occurring. Immunity to mind-affecting effects does not stop the spell either, but negates the daze effect on a successful save.
Description
You unleash a massive blast of energy that detonates upon all in the AoE, dealing 10d6 fire, 10d6 acid, 10d6 electrical and 10d6 sonic damage. The Hellball ignores Evasion and Improved Evasion.

Update:
Hellball is now full rainbow, and includes 10d6 Cold damage on top of its other damage types. This gives it a total of 50d6 damage instead of 40.
In addition, Hellball now has a Tremendous range (up from Huge). However, there is a 5% chance of the mage suffering a 10d6 backlash due to the chaotic power of the hellball.

This spell is useful against creatures with resistance to a single element and weakness to other elements (such as Red dragons). However, it does less damage against a creature with some level of resistance to all elements. For example, a ring of elemental resistance decreases the total damage by 60, while a ring of universal energy resistance decreases by a whopping 150 (leaving the average damage at a miniscule 25, 10 points less than a fireball cast by a level 10+ caster) If the ring instead gave total immunity to a single element, the damage would only be decreased by 20%.

This spell's utility is decreased on Hardcore mode and Very Difficult mode, mainly due to its large radius which increases the chance of it hitting allies.
A divine spellcaster who rises high in the service of his deity gains access to spells and abilities of which lesser faithful can only dream.
The hierophant is a prestige class of clerics and druids. Hierophants are higher members of clergy and druidic circles who decide to temporarily forgo gaining the highest levels of divine magic in order to concentrate on the mastery of what they already possess. This has the chief consequence of having spells that are much more potent than normal, allowing hierophants to heal and damage much more efficiently and powerfully through understanding rather than calling on more involved prayers.
Description
This invocation summons masses of biting and stinging insects. One swarm is summoned for every four class levels.

A swarm has a D20+Caster Level+ChaBonus base attack bonus and deals 2d6 points of magical damage when it hits. In addition, as long as one swarm hits its target, the target must make a Fortitude saving throw against poison or be dazed for one round. This save can only happen once per round, regardless of how many swarms hit the target.
Tenacious Plague lasts 6 rounds, and no longer hits allies.

Tenacious plague does not stack with itself. If the warlock uses this invocation while swarms still exist, the current swarms will be replaced with the new swarms.
The Challenge Ratings are based on the idea that you'll be with a party.

If you're going solo, it's suggested you add 2-3 levels to the CR (in many cases (Areas), you are better off adding 4-5 Levels...depending on your Build, and especially whether or not your Build utilizes Magic (divine/arcane) or UMD (considering how easily dispellable UMD is from Scrolls).

The stated CR of some areas is quite wildly different from the real difficulty.
